Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting: What might the future hold?

Publication year:

UNICEF, United Nations Children's Fund

Published by UNICEF, this report presents quantitative data on female genital cutting/mutilation (FGM/C). Their findings show that the chances of a girl being cut today are about one third lower than it was around three decades ago. However, the pace of change is unequal, both within and among countries.

UNICEF calls on accelerated action against FGM/C – otherwise they estimate that as many as 30 million girls alive today may be cut in the next decade alone. This number  will grow with the rise of the population of girls in affected countries.
