UNICEF’s ’equity agenda’ proposes that the greatest hope of breaking intergenerational cycles of inequity and poverty in society is through giving all children, especially the most disadvantaged, a fair chance in life.
This report outlines the milestones achieved for the world’s poor and marginalized children up till now, as well as identifying many of the remaining gaps. The seven sectors that are critical to progress for children are identified as: health; HIV and AIDS; water, sanitation and hygiene; nutrition; education; child protection; and social inclusion.
Alongside statistics and data visualizations, the report also features stories about children and families who have not shared equally in the aforementioned advances. The stories highlight equity-focused approaches from both UNICEF and partners in both humanitarian crises and development settings. The report is intended to influence planning for the post-2015 era.
