Save the Children’s vision for gender equality and social justice is inspired by Eglantyne Jebb: a suffragist, human rights activist, and Save the Children’s founder. Eglantyne passionately advocated against violations of children’s rights. Highlighting injustice, violation of rights, and children’s suffering, she declared: “this is not ok!” Our vision is that the world we pass on to the next generation is one in which gender inequality and other forms of oppression don’t limit a child’s life path and choices. A world where all children are valued, loved, and have access to equal opportunities in life.
In our 2022-2024 strategy, we crystalize our focus on reaching children most impacted by inequality and discrimination. We commit to taking an intersectional approach that recognizes the overlapping and compounding impact of race, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, caste, and other power differentials in shaping individual and group experiences of power, marginalization and discrimination. We take a cohesive and coordinated approach to advancing gender equality and social justice within and through Save the Children, taking a whole-institution, inside-out approach. We continually work to align the agency’s internal operations, programs and advocacy with its policy commitments to gender equality.
