Save the Children
In Honduras, Children under five with stunted growth who are cared for by teenage mothers are at greatest risk of getting left behind. Indigenous communities in Yumaranguila are especially vulnerable; 48% of children under five in this region suffer from chronic malnutrition.
There are multiple factors contributing to chronic malnutrition, some of the risk factors identified are: Inadequate health services in rural areas, a lack of family planning due to religious beliefs, and low education rates amongst children and youth.
Save the Children are working together with the Ministry of Health to help monitor growth and intervene in cases of vulnerable children under two. The strategy includes fetal health monitoring, growth and development monitoring, micronutrient supplementation, amongst other measures. Read more about the response within the brief.
