Children’s human right to dignity, physical integrity and full protection from violence are the fundamental underpinnings of a legal ban on use of force in the correction of children. The new global progress report for 2010, published jointly by the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children and Save the Children Sweden, documents substantial progress and active campaigns in all regions towards the prohibition of corporal punishment of children in the context of the follow up to the UN Secretary General’s Study on Violence against Children. The report also includes a major section on what it means to achieve law reform for the effective protection of children from all forms of violence, and how to do it.
