2016 marked the 10th anniversary of the UN Secretary General’s Study on Violence against Children. In this progress report for December 2016, the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children presents global progress towards the prohibition and elimination of all corporal punishment of children.

Since 2015, three states have prohibited all corporal punishment of children in all settings – Mongolia, Paraguay and Slovenia – while more states have expressed commitments to doing so. Ending violent punishment has become a part of the 2030 Agenda, Target 16.2, showing a commitment to “end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children”. This progress report reviews those agencies and organizations which are working towards ending corporal punishment of children.
