Save the Children UK
Save the Children’s new report raises the alarm on how the new Universal Credit system could undermine progress to ending child poverty in Britain. It argues that the potential positive impact of Universal Credit – the new welfare system due to replace tax credits and most benefits from 2013 – on supporting parents into work and reducing child poverty could be undermined. It identifies three key issues: – insufficient earnings disregards for working mothers; – lack of support for childcare costs; – Universal Credit payments will be withdrawn too quickly.
