Save the Children International,Save the Children Sudan
The ongoing conflict in Sudan has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, affecting over half of the population, including 16 million children. Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs), youth-driven and community-led initiatives, have emerged as vital mechanisms for providing lifesaving assistance. Originating from networks established during the December Revolution and further developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, ERRs have expanded significantly since the outbreak of war in April 2023. These informal groups, supported by local actors and increasingly recognized by international humanitarian organizations, offer rapid responses to urgent needs. ERRs operate in various states, delivering diverse services tailored to hyperlocalized needs. Despite facing significant risks, including targeted attacks and displacement, ERRs continue to play a crucial role in aid distribution. Save the Children has partnered with ERRs, providing group cash transfers and capacity-building support to enhance their effectiveness. This approach aims to empower local organizations, ensuring faster, more efficient, and culturally appropriate aid delivery, while integrating humanitarian aid, development assistance, and peacebuilding efforts for sustainable outcomes.
