Ellen is a forum providing an opportunity for girls to convene and express their opinion. It is led by project leaders trained by Save the Children Youth Sweden, the primary goal being to teach youths their rights as children from a gender perspective. In Ellen, 14 year old girls meet to talk about what it means to be a young woman today; they talk about love and emotions, about what happens when somebody goes beyond the norm or dares to be different, about acceptance, and other burning issues. The girls are empowered to make their own decisions independent of cultural notions of gender and sexuality. This manual offers some concrete tips and exercises on how to run conversation groups for teens and will hopefully inspire young people interested in joining youth activities in organisations such as Save the Children.
