This document presents the consolidated good practices of the International Labour Organization’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (ILO-IPEC). Between 2003-2006, the ILO-IPEC recognized the significant value in collecting the knowledge, learning, and information from a global education project: “Including the excluded: combating child labour through education”. That information was then analyzed, validated, and disseminated in this publication.
The ILO-IPEC established criteria for identifying good practices when using education as a means of combating and preventing child labour. They have provided non-formal education opportunities for child labourers, mainstreaming former child labourers into the education system, implementing small-scale interventions in educations systems to develop models for large-scale interventions, and building national alliances to make education policies more responsive to children at risk.
The good practices provided here are meant to serve, inspire, motivate and guide those who are actively working to support working children or former working children, their families and communities.
