Emergency Education and Protection Response in Nkhotakota – The ARISE Project’s Crisis Intervention (Malawi, 2026)

When devastating floods swept through Nkhotakota District, homes collapsed, bridges were damaged, and classrooms fell silent. Exercise books, pencils, and textbooks were washed away. For many children, the disaster did not only destroy property — it disrupted their dreams.

In response to the crisis, Save the Children, through the ECHO-funded ARISE Project’s Crisis Modifier, stepped in to restore hope and continuity in learning. Funded by European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), the intervention focused on restoring safe learning environments through the provision of teaching and learning materials, WASH supplies, child protection services, and school fumigation.
