This country report of Viet Nam takes a closer look at the disadvantaged in Vietnamese society, particularly amongst the Hmong ethnic minority. Early marriage remains far more common among the Hmong than it does in the wider Vietnamese population.
Focusing on national-level achievement of Millennium Development Goals overlooks the aforementioned pockets of disadvantage. This ODI report focuses on how young women and adolescent girls are or are not affected by development policies to improve education, gender equality, and the change of social norms that promote or do not inhibit early marriage.
This report is part of a two-year, multi-country study that includes looking at similar issues in Uganda and Nepal.
