Do adolescents need tailored MNH strategies? Unique needs of pregnant and adolescent mothers

Globally attention has focused on preventing adolescent pregnancy. Yet millions of adolescent girls give birth every year: Approximately 12 million girls aged 15-19 and 2.5 million girls younger than 16 give birth annually. This presentation explores the maternal and newborn health (MNH) needs of pregnant and parenting adolescents, drawn from a literature review of studies assessing barriers and comparing MNH outcomes for adolescents and older women. This presentation was shared at the 2023 International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference.
