This is a discussion paper on effective teaching and classroom management to promote changes towards positive, child-friendly practices and understand how physical and psychological punishments are addressed within the education system. It is vital not to single out punishment from the overall context of effective teaching and classroom management. Teachers need to better understand the diversity of their learners and the non-academic factors that impact learning.
