CUBIC Impact Brief: SOURIRE: Village Social Contracts & Child Labor in Cocoa

CUBIC partnered with Save the Children Côte d’Ivoire and Save the Children Switzerland to implement and evaluate the Village Social Contract (VSC) intervention, a community-based intervention aimed at reducing children’s engagement in hazardous tasks on coca farms and improving educational outcomes, using a rigorous cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) to generate causal evidence. The intervention had been previously piloted in 10 villages under a separate project and with a different funder, and evaluated using a before/after comparison, showing positive effects on children’s participation in hazardous tasks.
