Young individuals with disabilities in Indonesia face considerable challenges in accessing the labor market compared to their non-disabled peers. The obstacles they encounter —such as a lack of essential job skills training and pervasive discriminatory barriers and stigmas—hinder their transition into a work environment where they can thrive and contribute meaningfully. Recognizing these challenges, Skills to Succeed Indonesia initiated a transformation of its job placement program in 2017, taking a holistic approach that considers every aspect of the lives of young people with disabilities along the socio-ecological model, from their educational setting to family life and work with employers and government, to provide them with a comprehensive pathway to employment. This document shares best practices, challenges and recommendations that the Skills to Succeed Indonesia program has compiled over the years working to increase disability inclusion in the workplace.
