CRC-Cambodia’s UPR Advocacy for child rights informed climate action

This brief outlines CRC-Cambodia’s efforts to advance child rights-informed climate action during Cambodia’s 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The advocacy drew on a rights-based analysis of previous UPR recommendations and UN treaty body guidance, including General Comment No. 26. Despite growing recognition of climate change’s disproportionate impact on children, CRC-Cambodia’s advocacy gained limited traction. Of the 275 recommendations made to Cambodia, over 70 addressed children’s rights, yet climate-specific issues were largely overlooked. This document examines contributing factors and offers CRC-Cambodia’s perspective on the way forward.
