In this briefing, Save the Children analyses the relationship between rising food prices and child deaths, showing that this year’s food price spike may put an additional 400,000 children’s lives at risk. Global food prices have been rising for more than four years, reaching a new record high in 2011. This has contributed to nearly a billion people’s battle with hunger, and played a role in the devastating emergency in East Africa. The G20 must take decisive action to minimise the impact of high and volatile food prices on children. This briefing outlines Save the Children’s recommendations for the G20 summit in Cannes.
