The Constitutional Protection of Human Rights in Sudan: Challenges and Future Perspectives

This report contains the papers presented at the conference: ”The Constitutional Protection of Human Rights in Sudan: Challenges and Perspectives”. This conference was hosted and organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Khartoum on January 15, 2014.

The conference encouraged debate and discussion of human rights in Sudan, the shortcomings and successes of the Interim National Constitution of Sudan, and constitutional review. The discussion topics cover the constitutional Bill of Rights in Sudan, why it failed to protect civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, women’s rights and children’s rights.

Sudan enacted the Child Act of 2010, which, according to this report, has been highly recognized but still faces challenges when it comes to actual implementation. The debate in this report analyzes children’s rights throughout Sudan’s constitutional history as well as international law and future developments for Sudan.
