Community Mentorship Program: Sponsorship for Refugees 2025

This report summarizes findings from a four-day mentorship training targeting 244 unaccompanied and separated children, assessed through pre- and post-tests and focus group discussions. The training covered child rights, protection, gender, financial management, safety, climate change, and health. Results show significant improvements in awareness of reporting mechanisms (134%), financial management (82%), gender-based violence (GBV) knowledge (from 26% to 75%), types of abuse (31%), and safety practices (22%). Awareness of available services for UASCs increased from 27% to 68%.
Children reported improved confidence, communication, self-protection, and peer support. However, gaps remain in emotional abuse recognition, climate change causes, budgeting concepts, and responsiveness of reporting and referral systems—particularly affecting girls. Participants recommended expanding health topics, adding physical activities, strengthening climate content, and improving accountability and service responsiveness.
