Communities affected by conflict often struggle to access resources, goods, and services (RGS), and as such, opt to negotiate with armed actors. This presentation outlines the most relevant methodological aspects of a research on why and how communities negotiate for improved access and protection, and how humanitarian actors can assist in community-led negotiations. The study was funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), managed by Save the Children (SC) Civil-Military Engagement and Access Unit, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), and in cooperation with Colombia and South Sudan country offices.
