The Committee on the Rights of the Child has scheduled public consultations in September 2021 to foster a deeper understanding of the contents and implications of the Convention on the Rights of the Child as they relate to alternative care for children. These are part of an ongoing process to enhance collaboration within the alternative care, child protection and disability sectors.
The Discussion also provides an opportunity to review implementation of relevant international standards and progress made since the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on the Rights of the Child regarding children living without parental care, the Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty, the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, and normative discussions between the Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, particularly around the use of residential care..
The Day of General Discussion on Alternative Care will be held on 16th and 17th September 2021 in a virtual and online format.
