Save the Children

Save the Children is committed to ensuring that all rights set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and its Optional Protocols are fulfilled – now, in times of crisis, and in the future, for all children including those who are most deprived.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reiterate many of those commitments to children and also stress the need for open, inclusive and accountable governance to deliver development progress for all. To fulfil this commitment, Save the Children’s child rights governance work during 2016–18 will focus largely on supporting our three breakthroughs – child survival, learning, and protection from violence – and our new global campaign by:

  • addressing the financial barriers to achieving those breakthroughs
  • working with children and civil society to hold governments accountable for their commitments and failings around the breakthroughs
  • supporting open, inclusive and accountable child rights governance frameworks necessary to deliver change on those breakthroughs, including in fragile states.
