AWCY, Associations of Working Children and Youth
The African Movement of Working Children and Youth (AMWCY) was founded in 1994 by children and youth from four countries. Since then, it has grown to encompass children, youth, and members from 27 African countries.
This child protection manual was developed with the intention of being a systematized catalogue of community-based protection activities, which are pedagogically described so that they can be easily reproduced. The meaning of protection is clarified as well as the three pillars of protection, as defined by WCY: Prevention, accompanying, and promoting children’s rights.
The manual was foremost produced for AMWCY groups in developing a good understanding of the protection approach but can also be applied elsewhere as it encourages a transfer of knowledge and skills in child protection.
