Statistics alone can’t tell us the whole story of child poverty in Scotland. Behind every figure there is a child that has had their childhood threatened and their opportunities curtailed by the scourge of growing up poor. Statistics, do, however, help us to understand the nature of the challenge we face and whether or not we are meeting that challenge. Child poverty in Aberdeenshire is lower than in Scotland as a whole, but there are still many children in the area growing up poor. This paper gives a statistical snapshot of child poverty in Aberdeenshire, with a specific focus on income and education.
