In collaboration with KidsRights, the Department of Child Law of the Leiden University developed the KidsRights Report ‘Child Participation: from Rights to Reality’. This report provides both general and specific information on child participation, from different levels to modern day examples of model child participants.
In addition, his report provides detailed recommendations for the realization of children’s participation rights. KidsRights finds promising developments at international, regional, national and local levels which should be shared and reflected upon; three are presented in this report. The recipients of the International Children’s Peace Prize are powerful examples of what child-led initiatives can achieve with the right support. Child participation, after 25 years of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, is increasingly visible and real, while much work remains to be done.
