Swedish local and regional authorities who receive unaccompanied asylum-seeking refugee children have to ensure they get the services they need. The State is responsible for providing basic information related to their stay as asylum seekers in the country, but up to now the guidelines have not been made sufficiently clear in this regard. In response to the situation, Save the Children has come up with a checklist as an aid to the local governments who act as “receiving authorities” for unaccompanied asylum-seeking refugee children in Sweden. The checklist advocates for improved reception conditions and the rights of asylum-seeking minors not under parental authority.
