A Case Study from Romania on working children and their right to education. The work children carry out can have severe consequences on their development and health and is an obstacle in their school education. School abandonment rate is on the increase and in order to curb school drop-outs Save the Children has initiated an alternative education programme called “The Second Chance” offering a new approach to the problem of illiteracy. New integrated educational, social and psychological services addressing a social problem with long-term effects, through which children deprived of their right to development were offered a second chance to a decent life and a better future, through education. The children involved in the programme demonstrate a significant impact on school improvement.
