Case study. Child Rights Governance Initiative: The South East Europe Children’s Rights Ombudsperson’s Network – Regional Synergy for Protection of Child Rights

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has been has ratified by all the countries of the South East Europe Region, but the child rights situation is way behind the required standards. In countries affected by post-war situation and transition from socialist to democratic environment, children’s rights are neglected. This case study relates to Save the Children’s support for the establishment and development of the South East Europe Children’s Rights Ombudspersons’ Network (CRONSEE), which will enable the exchange of information, lessons learned and best practices in the field of child rights protection and promotion among the ombudsman institutions within the region. Cooperation among the Ombudsman institutions within the region will significantly contribute to improving the protection of children’s rights in South East Europe. CRONSEE is currently composed of 14 Ombudsman Institutions from 12 countries of the Region: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia and Serbia.
