Corporal punishment in schools is still widely practised in Tanzania, and although the Government of Tanzania has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, corporal punishment in schools remains legal. The programme implemented by Save the Children in Zanzibar, aims at promoting alternative forms of discipline in schools – an innovative, evidence-based and replicable solution to eliminate corporal punishment in schools, homes, the communities and other institutions taking care of children.
