This collection of case studies examines efforts to enhance local leadership in humanitarian coordination. The initiative, piloted in Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen from 2022-2024, focused on institutional capacity strengthening, meaningful participation, and local leadership in clusters and Areas of Responsibility (AoRs). Key activities included participatory workshops, capacity exchange, and the development of localisation strategies and action plans. The case studies highlight significant progress in strengthening local and national non-governmental organizations (LNNGOs), improving their governance, financial management, and advocacy skills. The initiative also fostered increased engagement and leadership roles for LNNGOs in humanitarian coordination groups, promoting a more inclusive and effective humanitarian response. Challenges such as resource constraints and varying levels of commitment to localisation are discussed, along with recommendations for future work to ensure sustainable and impactful local leadership in humanitarian efforts.
