Public Internet centres in Peru have become a social and cultural phenomenon without precedent. They have grown rapidly since the 90, increasing poor people’s access to the communication and information resources of the internet. Although the internet has a generally positive effect on its users in terms of global connectivity, freedom of expression and access to knowledge, there are risks involved, especially for younger children and adolescents who are being exposed not only to harmful contents and other potential risks on the internet, but also to producers and consumers of child pornography.
