Building Climate Resilient Health Systems: Evidence from the CHWBRC Baseline Assessment in Southern Malawi (2026)

The Climate Resilient Health and Well-Being for Rural Communities (CHWBRC) project is a five-year initiative (April 2025–March 2030) funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), with co-financing from FCDO, Foundation S (Sanofi), GlaxoSmithKline, and Moondance Foundation. Led by the Government of Malawi’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with Save the Children International and implemented in partnership with the Catholic Health Commission and CRECCOM, the project targets six districts: Balaka, Ntcheu, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe, and Zomba.

The project aims to build a gender-transformative, climate-resilient health system focused on youth, mothers, and children through four integrated outcomes spanning institutional strengthening, infrastructure, workforce capacity, and community resilience.

Informed by evidence from the baseline assessment, this brief proposes six strategic policy recommendations directed at implementing partners, the Government of Malawi, and the Green Climate Fund.
