Persons with disabilities are known to be at an increased risk of infection and complications during the COVID-19 pandemic. These risks are aggravated by numerous barriers to family crisis preparedness, a lack of access to health and protection messaging and potentially discriminatory attitudes and procedures. For example, children with disabilities may need to adapt to school closures and decreased access to social support and personal assistance.
This document presents protection risks for children and adults with disabilities during the COVID-19 outbreak in Syria. It also highlights recommendations for how these risks can be mitigated.
