The lives of children in Afghanistan have changes in almost every way since the Taliban took control in August 2021, with girls particularly affected. Children are out of school, taking part in dangerous forms of child labour, and at risk of early and forced marriage. The economic crisis as well as new restrictions on the rights of boys and girls is creating a perfect storm for children. This report highlights the ways children’s lives have changed, drawing on extensive engagement with boys and girls themselves. It also highlights the action required of the international community to tackle the root causes of the spiraling crisis unfolding in Afghanistan.
