Becoming Part of the Solution: Overview of two boys’ groups programmes working in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to promote gender equality. In 2005, Save the Children Sweden (SCS) established two boys’ groups in Addis Ababa. These groups were formed working in collaboration with two local partner organisations in order to provide a forum for boys and young men to discuss issues surrounding gender inequality, gender violence and the transmission of HIV/AIDS and to promote the idea of positive change within their communities. They are part of SCS’ child participation, HIV prevention and non-discrimination programmes.The boys’ groups in Addis Ababa have the specific objective of promoting gender equality as a means of tackling the growing threat of HIV/AIDS and of gender violence.
