Children are particularly vulnerable during infectious disease outbreaks. This is partly because children with other conditions may fall ill but also as environments in which children develop and grow may be disrupted. In addition to this, it is also likely that measures used to prevent and control the spread of diseases can expose children to protection risks. The collective grief and anxiety that families experience can also impact heavily on children.
The best way to slow down the transmission of the COVID-19 disease is to be well informed. The ‘Awareness Raising Messages’ aim to provide basic knowledge of personal protective measures, but they also include messages on coping with and overcoming stress during the current situation. For delivering these messages, parents can use ‘Awareness Raising for Children, Parents and Community Members During Disease Outbreak: Modalities for delivering’ which includes scenarios and instructions.
