While the ECE enrolment has taken shape, spreading in remote parts of the country has remained a challenge as the number of ECE teachers remains low in rural areas. For many years, Zambia’s education sector has faced challenges that include; inadequate financial and human resources, poor education quality, and low progression rates, among others. These challenges tend to be higher in rural areas due to developmental inequalities, where access to quality education has continued to be affected by distance, poor infrastructure, and lack of teachers. The challenges faced in rural areas often tend to be heightened for CSENs who are more vulnerable, face major challenges and lack assistive devices such as hearing aids, glasses, wheelchairs and clutches.
An assessment of pre-primary teacher deployment was carried out in three districts of Western Province which included; Mongu, Sioma and Shang’ombo.
