This study analyzes the seismic hazard in Italy and the danger this poses to schools and their students.
About 4 and a half million students subject to compulsory education live in areas of high or medium-high seismic hazard. 29 Provinces with a very high number of students (from 50 thousand to 500 thousand) extend their territory to areas of high seismic hazard.
Yet in Italy there is not much information on the state of school buildings, many schools have not been subjected to seismic vulnerability checks and the data of the school building registry are not updated or complete.
