The Daratchama Health Center in Niger faced a critical challenge: a 36-year absence of potable water. Community members were forced to transport water themselves for patient needs. In 2023, the USAID-funded Kulawa project launched a vast initiative to rehabilitate or construct water points, prioritizing health centers with maternities. At Daratchama, Kulawa drilled a 70m borehole, installed a solar pump, and connected the center to a water distribution system. This support finally ensured clean water availability for 22,000 people. Water infrastructure works in health facilities supported by USAID Kulawa in Niger have benefited over 315,000 people with continued efforts in 2024 that will reach an addition 520,000 more.
