Adolescent Transition in West Africa Endline Evaluation Brochure

This brochure provides a summary of the endline evaluation of the Adolescent in Transition in West Africa program. The End-line evaluation of the Adolescent Transition in West Africa (ATWA) program in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso used a longitudinal cluster randomized trial with a comparison group. The evaluation measured the effects of delivering Sexual and Reproductive Health education curricula in schools by teachers and in small groups by mentors on very young (10-14) and older (15-19) in-school and out-of-school adolescents.

Evaluation findings in the final programme year concluded that ATWA led to many significant improvements in SRHR-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviour among in- and out-of-school adolescents of all age groups, including significant improvements in gender equitable attitudes. This includes significant intervention effects in puberty and menstruation knowledge, correct knowledge of STI risk, prevention and treatment, knowing where to seek SRH services, knowledge of contraceptive methods and intention to use modern contraception, and knowledge of where to seek SRH services and help.
