Save the Children Nigeria

Being accountable to affected people requires building respectful, trusting, and collaborative relationships with children and communities through information sharing, participation, and feedback. A strong accountability system supports high-quality and appropriate program interventions and is key to Save the Children’s organisational values, principles, and global commitments, including the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) and the Grand Bargain. Save the Children is dedicated to being accountable to children and communities, sharing relevant information promptly, assisting them in influencing processes that have an impact on them, allowing them to give us feedback on our work, and modifying our strategies following the results of these processes.
Accountability features as the main component of our organisation’s Quality Framework and within the management operating standards. It improves the quality of our programmes by ensuring their relevance, effectiveness, and sustainability. It also improves our relationships and acceptance by communities. Hence, the need to constantly review accountability approaches across our programmes.
The objectives of this accountability systems review were to assess the quality of the governance, information sharing, participation, and feedback and reporting mechanism of the existing accountability system in implementation states in Nigeria, and to develop an action plan to address gaps identified and improve accountability systems in the country.
