Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children,Save the Children
Physical and humiliating punishment of children is unacceptable, regardless of the reason or circumstance. Just as how we treat adults, children’s right to human dignity and physical integrity should also be respected. The legality of corporal punishment is in direct conflict with every child’s right to protection. In order to fulfill the promises made to children in the Convention of the Right of the Child, urgent action is needed to ensure that all children’s rights are protected.
This report examines the legislation and policies of each Latin American and Carribean state in prohibiting corporal punishment and deliberate humiliation towards children. It also contains recommendations for legislative reform and other measures to be adopted based on the consultations.
