A New Wave of Opportunities: Engaging Youth in the Blue Economy (2025)

In this brief, learn about how Save the Children Italy launched a Blue Economy Pilot in 2024 through its Skills to Succeed (S2S) program. Targeting marginalized in-school and out-of-school youth aged 15–24, the project aimed to open doors to meaningful, sustainable employment through exposure to maritime jobs, hands-on learning, understanding of ocean conservation and targeted skills development

By partnering with schools, youth centers, training organizations and local businesses, the pilot invited participants to see the sea not just as part of their backdrop, but as a pathway to purpose, resilience and economic opportunity. Early internship placements through the pilot are already demonstrating its potential, offering promising lessons for how to better connect marginalized youth to the growing Blue Economy.
