Save the Children Malawi Country Office has been actively implementing the Children’s Parliament initiative since 2016 in Mwanza and Neno districts in Southern Malawi. This impactful intiative expanded to Mzimba South in 2019 and Ntcheu district in 2021. In 2021, Save the Children collaborated with various stakeholders, including Plan International and World Vision International, to support the Government of Malawi in re-establishing the National Children’s Parliament. This initiative serves as a vital strategy to enhance meaningful child participation, aligning with key provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC). The Children’s Parliament aims to bolster children’s capacity to influence local and national government bodies, actively engaging in processes addressing issues of concern to children.
