The latest Save the Children Education Against the Odds (September 2019) report reveals that the majority of children living in a humanitarian crisis prioritise access to Education ahead of access to food, water, shelter or money.

Education provides a protective environment for children in a context of high insecurity. Quality education strengthens the resilience of children and adolescents in times of great uncertainty and vulnerability. In the long term, education can break the cycle of violence, conflict and promote peace and reconciliation. Education enables children and adolescents to build a better future, teaching them tolerance and conflict resolution.

Attacks on schools, students and teachers are violations of child rights and international humanitarian law, constituting war crimes.
