Learnings from Integration of Family Planning into Immunization Programming
Save the Children, with support from the Pfizer Foundation, worked with the Ministry of Health in Malawi to strengthen immunization outreach clinics, as part of the Government’s Expanded Program on Immunization, by integrating family planning (FP) into these routine outreach clinics from 2015-2019. The outreach clinics are staffed by Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) who are permitted by policy to provide counseling and referral for all FP methods, and to counsel and dispense pills, condoms, and injectable contraception. Through a partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, several publications were published in peer-reviewed journals.
